About Erik Filkorn

As an independent PR consultant, I make connections that make a difference. I play different roles with each client: communications counselor, spokesperson, internal resource or external representative. To one degree or another, everyone I know and everything I care about becomes a campaign. My curiosity drives me to look at the big picture and pitch stories in ways that may at times seem unusual, but ultimately serve the broader narrative and help my clients tell their stories. Problems are solved and opportunities open when people who can make a difference get connected. That's what I do.

My background in music and entertainment brings unexpected touches to seemingly conventional projects, always with an emphasis on what the story means to the public in the end. While I can technically digest and translate a variety of business sectors, I’m not interested in promoting “scalable, enterprise-level, paradigm-shifting jargon-based solutions.” I want to tell stories people can relate to - I want to know who your business or organization helps. People first - that's my PR rule.

As Chittenden County Ambassador and a member of the program and education committee for Vermont Business For Social Responsibility, I am constantly in touch with the latest innovations in smart, sustainable business practice as well as the players who are making it happen.

Serving in local government has schooled me in the politics of the possible and given me an extensive education in the respective roles of the public and private sector in Vermont. They are more intertwined than most people realize, and it always helps to put a face on public policy.
